Georgia Veteran's State Park


Established in 1946 as a memorial to U.S. veterans, Georgia Veterans State Park stretches 1,308 acres and offers an array of recreational activities and overnight accommodations. Perched on picturesque Lake Blackshear, the park includes one of the most naturally beautiful Georgia golf courses, four miles of nature trails, and endless opportunities for fishing, boating, and water recreation.

Entrance to the park is $5.00 per car for the general public and $3.75 per car for veterans or active military with proper identification.

Avoid the crowds and find more open reservations for activities by scheduling a mid-week visit.

Originally used by the Savannah, Americus & Montgomery Railroad Company in the 1880s, the SAM Shortline runs from Savannah to Alabama. Today, the historic SAM Shortline Excursion Train guides passengers on the ultimate scenic adventure through the park and on to Plains stopping at historically significant sites along the way.

Operating under the theme “Serve the Living: Honor our Heroic Dead”, the Military Museum showcases inspiring indoor exhibits and outdoor installations including a B-29A Superfortress, jets, tanks, and a helicopter. This educational experience is a must see for families, school groups and all those who have served in the U.S. military.

PLAY AT THE PARK


This outdoor activity oasis is a true Georgia treasure. Both visitors and guests alike bike, hike, kayak, canoe and swim at the sand beach. The cypress trees that line the banks are the perfect fishing spots and recreational boaters can rent pontoon boats from the Marina. Land-lovers enjoy taking advantage of our one-of-a-kind Archery & Air Gun Range, 18-hole championship golf course and disc golf course.
