Georgia Veterans State Park, the Georgia Veterans Memorial Golf Course, and the Military Museum all pay tribute to U.S. service members from the Revolutionary War through the present day. Operating under the theme “Serve the Living: Honor our Heroic Dead”, the museum showcases inspiring indoor exhibits and outdoor installations including a B-29A Superfortress, jets, tanks, and a helicopter.
Originally used by the Savannah, Americus & Montgomery Railroad Company in the 1880s, the SAM Shortline runs from Savannah to Alabama. In the days of the Daphne Plantation, it was known as the Seaboard Railroad. It is now named to honor its original owner – hence, “SAM” Shortline.
Today, this historic line guides passengers on the ultimate scenic adventure. The SAM Shortline Excursion Train runs through the park as it travels from Cordele to Plains stopping at cultural and historical sites along the way.
