Fun, Festivals and Live Music

Lake Blackshear Resort & Golf Club in Cordele, Georgia is a summer haven for families, couples and friend groups. In addition to being a premier lake resort and home to one of the best Georgia golf courses, we host events, festivals and live music all season long.

Spectacular Local Events and Attractions

Cordele, Georgia is known as the “watermelon capital of the world.” Every June, the city celebrates the watermelon harvest with the Watermelon Days Festival. Activities and events include contests, the 4-H Dog Shows, horseshoe tournament, gospel singing and much more. Starting in 2019, the festival will now be hosted at Lake Blackshear Resort & Golf Club exclusively.

While in Cordele, be sure to get tickets for a ride on the renowned SAM Shortline Excursion Train, a vintage 1949 locomotive pulling passenger cars across the southwest Georgia landscape. As one of the most celebrated local attractions, the train offers mid-century style with the modern comfort of air conditioning. Riders can tour the beautiful landscape from Cordele to Archer without breaking a sweat.

Spending Independence Day with us means you’ll always have plenty of choices, even when it comes to where you watch the fireworks on the Flint River. With some of the best boat rentals in Georgia, consider loading up your crew and picnic supper to view the show on the water. Another one-of-a-kind vantage point is a seat on the SAM Shortline: the vintage train stops over the middle of the lake as fireworks streak the sky. If you’d rather hit the beach, we’ve got you covered there, too. Swim, play and lounge until the sun goes down. Then simply lean back and enjoy a traditional July Fourth finale without fighting a crowd.
